Welcome 2010!
(Natasha, Lindsey, Dasha, Alina, and I dressed up for church)
I was able to ring in 2010-- the Ukrainian way.
Natasha and I went to Illichivsk (a town about 20 km west of Odessa)
to celebrate with some other students from the seminary!
It was an ALL night event. Church began at 10 p.m. at 12 midnight we were praying as fireworks started going off all around us. (I rang in the new year with a little bang--I got a little dehydrated and blacked out in the middle of the prayer!--I was ok. I think only my friends noticed.)
(I took this picture while I was recovering from my fainting incident)
It wouldn't be New Years in Ukraine without fireworks.
After the service the youth gathered for the real party. The youth gathered and we started eating at 2 a.m. This years theme was hiking in the Carpathian mountains....We played games, sang songs, watched skits, ate some more.
Finally Natahsa and I decided to call it a day and left for Odessa at 8:30 a.m. We got home about 11 a.m!
Ukrainians know how to celebrate!
